Raymund P Devas OP MC OBE, 1887-1975
Father Devas lived and worked in the Caribbean for much of his life. He died on 2nd July 1975 aged 88 years and is buried in Barbados. A well known and revered, sometimes feared, figure in Grenada over many years, he wrote a number of books including:
- Up hill and down dale in Grenada (1926)
- Conception Island- the history of the Catholic church in Grenada (1932)
- The Caribs ( a pamphlet, 1940)
- Visitors’ book of birds, Trinidad and Tobago (1950)
- Births of British Honduras [modern Belize] , (1953)
- A history of the island of Grenada 1498-1796, with some notes and comments on Carriacou and events of later years. This was still widely available during the 1980s
- Birds of Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, which went in to its third edition in 1970, and was still available in the 1980s
